* - Fun and exciting themes that allow the performers to stretch the creative limits - Photo slideshow from LaWeekly of the Muppet Burlesque Show.
* - Classes and teachers that strive to expose their students to all aspects of the community - Striptease Symposium is hosting a Holiday Open House starting with a free workshop and ending with performances from past graduates, there will be raffles and a craft bazaar. (Prizes include free classes, gloves, and other neat stuff)
* - A wide variety of weekly, monthly and almost monthly shows - Red Snapper's Sassy, Classy Burlesque Revue
Red Snapper brings burlesque back to the theater! An evening of classic (and classically twisted) burlesque. $15 admission gets you nine incredible performers and you can BYOB! December 6th, 2009, show starts at 9 PM. The Sherry Theater, 11052 Magnolia Blvd., North Hollywood, CA 91601.
* - Wonderful photographers with an eye for the beauty on and off stage - S.H. Photo shot most of the photos in The LABurlesque calendars and is a regular on the scene. Dancers always know that if a photo gets past his watchful eye, then it is gorgeous. (check out his Documentary and experimental stuff as well - He has quite the body of work)
* - Easy and inexpensive shopping - ask any dancer where she buys her crystal's and you will end up in the heart of downtown's fabric district - it has everything, if you look hard enough.
* - a loving and happy community that can be caught eating together, playing together or crafting together. Many shows are followed up by group breakfasts, groups can be seen at The Magic Castle or The TattleTale room on a regular basis, and open invite craft nights happen most months.
Not an all inclusive list, but a shiny sampler of the bubbling and thriving burlesque scene in Los Angeles.
